The township of Mpohor was thrown into chaos on Saturday after a gang of heavily armed robbers carried out a surprise attack, forcing traders and residents to flee for safety.
Eyewitnesses said that the robbers, who outnumbered and outgunned the police, escaped with an undisclosed amount of money and left several people injured in the process.
“All shops are closed fearing attack,” one resident said. “My wife locked her shop and is hiding somewhere.”
The incident has sparked widespread panic, with many businesses in the area shutting down as fear grips the community.
Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Kofi Bentil, has confirmed the attack. Security agencies are yet to release an official statement.
