In the Eastern region, a security guard of a gold buying firm at Asamang Tamfoe has been shot dead in the Atiwa East District.
Residents in the area are shocked by the incident and live in fear.
The robbery incident occurred Friday afternoon in the Asamang Tamfoe community.
The armed robbers numbering about six, reportedly stormed the area amidst indiscriminate firing of gunshots.
The armed men shot and killed the security man on duty at the gold-buying firm before breaking into the offices and holding the staff hostage, demanding cash and gold.
The robbers later stormed out of the firm, still firing gunshots indiscriminately, and in the process, a bullet hit a passerby who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
A manager at the gold-buying firm Gideon said he was forced at gunpoint to give over 1 million cedis to the armed robbers who were demanding gold from him.
The Eastern regional police command has begun investigating the incident but would not comment on whether there was an arrest of persons involved in the crime.
