The outgoing director general of police, DCOP Kwesi Ofori, is urging Ghanaians to support the ongoing transformations within the police service in order to re-position it to deliver.
Speaking at a brief pull-out ceremony at the national police training school here in Accra, he noted, that no amount of effort from the service will achieve the desired outcome with genuine public support.
DCOP Kwesi Ofori, started his police career some 35 years ago and rose through the ranks to his present deputy commissioner of police, DCOP.
He retired as a director general of the police public affairs directorate, a unit he has served many times as the deputy director, and director. as a media personality, DCOP Kwesi Ofori obtained a diploma in public relations from the Ghana Institute of journalism in 1988, a first degree and a master’s from the same institute by 2015.
He also holds a master’s degree in conflict, peace and security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, KAIPTC.
DCOP Ofori, served as district commander for Adabraka, Dodowa and Tafo Pankronu, as well as divisional commander for Dodowa, Tema, deputy commander for the VVIP unit at the presidency, and Accra regional operations commander.
He had also served in a peacekeeping mission in Liberia and attended several courses home and abroad. DCOP Kwesi Ofori, was instrumental in police public relations and mentored the majority of the public relations officers as well as formulation of many programmes for the service.
He called for constructive public criticism to help propel the police service to acceptable standards.
