CID Receives Complaint Over Alleged Incitement and False Claims on Bawku Conflict

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has received a formal complaint alleging incitement and the spread of false information linked to the protracted Bawku conflict.

The petition, dated December 17, 2025, names Adomako Emmanuel, popularly known on social media as Qwofi Manuel, who is described as a supporter of Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

According to the complaint submitted at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the accused is alleged to have circulated false and inflammatory claims on social media following a recent meeting between the Otumfuo Mediation Team and President John Dramani Mahama, held as part of efforts to resolve the Bawku conflict.

The complainant alleges that on December 16, 2025, Adomako Emmanuel published a post claiming that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had indicated plans to overturn decisions taken by the Otumfuo Committee and recognise the Mamprusi as the rightful custodians of the Bawku skin should he be elected president.

The petition insists the claim is false and misleading, noting that GHOne TV—cited as the source of the alleged report—has publicly dissociated itself from the publication.

The complainant warns that the dissemination of such misinformation has the potential to undermine ongoing peace efforts in Bawku and could trigger unrest if left unaddressed. The CID is therefore being urged to investigate the matter and apply relevant laws to deter the spread of false information capable of disturbing public peace.

Attached to the complaint are screenshots of the alleged posts, images of the accused, details of his social media accounts, and contact information to support investigations.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service has not issued an official statement on the matter or confirmed whether investigations have commenced.
