Boxing: Four Gyms Merge as Four others Join Pro-League

the success of the maiden Ghana professional boxing league appears to have engendered heighten interest in the local initiative with more boxing clubs and boxers willing to be part.

Prior to the start of the second season last Saturday March 18, the names openly known as entrants to the league were the Ghana Armed forces and the Prison Service.

However, when the role call was made more new names popped up, some in partnership and others in solo move.

The late Napoleon Tagoe’s Will Power Gym surfaced but paired with Sea View Boxing Gyms to form a team for the Ghana Professional Boxing League.

The Gym and Palm Spring gym also came together to formed one team to compete for honours.

Both gyms had competed in the maiden event but thought it wise to merge in a bid to gain more strength against the opposition.

Two other Boxing Gyms, the Bridge, owned by a former Ghana amateur boxing federation president, Ray Quarcoo, and carl Lokko’s Bronx gym, have also joined the League to file the gab created by the merger of the Gym and Palm Spring, and Sea View Boxing Gyms, which has merged with Will Power Gym.

Then of course the publicly announced Ghana Prisons service and the Ghana Armed Forces Boxing Gyms to bring the total number of participating gyms to 14.

These are now fighting for the ultimate glory, honors and bragging right as well as the Renault cars at stake for the Best Gym and Best Boxer.

The final 14 gyms registered for the season two, are the Ghana Prison Service, Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation, Panix, Attoh Quarshie, Wisdom, Black Panthers, Fit Square Boxing, the Bridge Foundation, Bronx, Ghana Armed Forces, the Gym &Palm Spring, Will Power & Sea View, Seconds Out and Akotoku Academy.

Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation won the Best Gym prize, while Charles yaw Tetteh of the Panix Gym grabbed a deserving Best Boxer award.
