
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the successful conviction and sentencing of two men involved in a violent armed robbery at Atonsu, Kumasi.
The convicts, Abass Kasim (26) and Daniel Morro, also known as “China” (25), along with three accomplices still at large, attacked a resident at his home in Atonsu, Kuwait, on July 31, 2021, around 2:30 a.m.
Armed with a pistol and cutlasses, the gang shot the victim in the abdomen, inflicted multiple cutlass wounds, and robbed him of valuables. Items stolen included: one iPhone 11 valued at 5,500 cedis, one Samsung phone valued at 500 cedis, two Apple Watches valued at 3,000 cedis, two M.K. ladies’ handbags, Unspecified quantity of jewellery, 600 dollars and an unspecified amount of cedis.
Following swift police investigations, Abass Kasim was arrested on August 12, 2021. During interrogation, he admitted his role and led officers to arrest Daniel Morro. A pistol used in the robbery was also retrieved.
The suspects were initially arraigned before the Kumasi Circuit Court 4 on August 19, 2021, and remanded after pleading not guilty.
After prolonged proceedings, they reappeared in court on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, where they were convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on each count—including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, unlawful entry, abetment of crime, and possession of firearms without authority. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The convicts have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their prison terms.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing all accomplices still at large and ensuring justice for victims of violent crime.
