The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects and seized mining equipment, including an excavator and a loaded firearm, during coordinated anti-galamsey operations at Nikanika and Adeade in the Central Region.
The operation, carried out on Friday, June 20, 2025, by the Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force, formed part of the ongoing nationwide crackdown on illegal mining activities.
At Nikanika, the task force discovered an abandoned mining site. Although no operators were present, officers retrieved one single-barrel shotgun loaded with a cartridge and three (3) water pumping machines believed to be used in illegal mining activities.
The team then extended the operation to Adeade, where they apprehended three suspects, Prosper Quansah, Chrispin Nartey, and Owusu Gambra, who were intercepted with an excavator being transported on a lowbed trailer.

Key equipment seized at the Adeade site included:
- One SANY excavator
- Four (4) unregistered Haojin motorbikes
- One (1) lowbed truck with registration number GN 2136-24
All three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations. The recovered equipment and firearm have been secured as evidence.
The Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts to clamp down on illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources. The public is urged to provide timely information to aid similar operations.
