Assembly members in the Bawku west district of the upper east region have followed through with their threat to boycott the 66th independence anniversary parade.
They have vowed to keep abstaining from all assembly-related programmes including assembly meetings until the Bawku chieftaincy dispute is resolved
A new chief was enskinned by the Nayiri Inspite of the zugraan of the Kusaug traditional area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, being the Bawku Naaba.
The assembly members in the six Kusaug districts in a reaction, threatened to boycott all state events including assembly meetings.
Following up with their threat none of the 48 assembly members of the Bawku west district showed up at the event in Zebilla.
They contend that government’s continued silence over the new chief enskinned by the Nayiri means government is insensitive to the Bawku conflict.
In the meantime, the district chief executive for Bawku west, Issahaku Tahiru Ahmed, has urged the youth of the area to use their energy productively.
The district chief executive for Tempane Issaka Anabida called for justice and peace for Bawku
Only the presiding member of the assembly took part in the independence anniversary activities.
