Residents in Kolsuga and Avoisum in the Garu district of the upper-east region are appealing to the ministry of energy to connect them to the national electricity grid.
The two communities are part of many others in the district which have transformers erected but never get to enjoy the benefits of electricity.
The government drive for rural electrification was premised on the need to accelerated growth and fast track development.
It was therefore a great joy for the residents of Kolsuga, Avoisum, and many other communities in the Garu district of the upper-east region when electric poles and transformers were brought to the communities.
However, the excitement expressed by the people would be short lived as deploying of the electricity poles and transformers appeared to be the end of the project.
The residents continue to trek over 10 kilometres to charge their phones and access other electricity powered services.
Students in these communities have to depend on lanterns, flashlights and candles to study at night.
Health workers too we are told have to rely on phones and flashlights for delivery services at night.
The district chief executive, Osman Musah, assured residents of getting access to electricity in the first quarter the year.
He said measures are far advanced to power the eleven communities which are about 99% complete.
