The comment by President Akufo-Addo about a supposed Russian militia operating in Burkina Faso has attracted sharp reaction from that country, leading to Ghana’s ambassador to Burkina Faso, being summoned to the ministry of foreign affairs.

H.E.M Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE has heard this morning, the Ambassador of Ghana to Burkina Faso, Mr. Boniface Gambila ADAGBILA.
The exchange follows Ghanaian President Nana AKUFO-ADDO’s statement at the US-Africa summit where he accused Burkina Faso of joining the services of the Russian company Wagner in the fight against terrorist groups but also for offering Wagner a mine in disguise payment. The Deputy Minister for Regional Cooperation translated the Burkina government’s disapproval of these statements by the Head of State of Ghana.
In response, Ghana’s ambassador said that his President’s exit was not intended to condemn Burkina Faso or to sow doubt in minds, but the intention was above all to draw the attention of partners in order to raise a g interesting in Burkina Faso Otherwise, “the Ghanaian president’s speeches were conditional” stressed Mr Boniface Gambila ADAGBILA.
Recalling the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries, S.E.M Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE felt that Ghana could have undertaken exchanges with the Burkina authorities on the security issue in order to be informed ions.
He also noted that “It would have been more interesting to initiate a dialogue between participating and non-participating African countries in prelude to this summit of the United States of America”.
The two sides agreed that it is important that African countries, especially those in the sub-region, work to further strengthen their ties of solidarity and fraternity.

Propos du Président ghanéen sur les supposés liens du Burkina Faso avec Wagner : l’Ambassadeur du Ghana convoqué au ministère des Affaires étrangères

S.E.M Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE a entendu ce matin, l’Ambassadeur du Ghana au Burkina Faso, Monsieur Boniface Gambila ADAGBILA.
Cet échange fait suite à la déclaration du président Ghanéen, Nana AKUFO-ADDO, lors du sommet USA-Afrique où il a accusé le Burkina Faso de s’être adjoint les services de la société russe Wagner dans la lutte contre les groupes terroristes mais aussi d’avoir offert à Wagner une mine en guise de paiement. Le Ministre délégué chargé de la Coopération régionale a traduit la désapprobation du Gouvernement burkinabè de ces déclarations du chef de l’Etat du Ghana.
En réponse, l’Ambassadeur du Ghana a indiqué que cette sortie de son Président ne visait pas à condamner le Burkina Faso, ni à semer le doute dans les esprits, mais l’intention était surtout d’attirer l’attention des partenaires afin de susciter un grand intérêt à l’endroit du Burkina Faso. Du reste, « les propos du président Ghanéen étaient au conditionnel » a souligné Monsieur Boniface Gambila ADAGBILA.
Rappelant les liens historiques et de fraternité entre les deux pays, S.E.M Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE a estimé que le Ghana aurait pu entreprendre des échanges avec les autorités burkinabè sur la question sécuritaire afin d’avoir les bonnes informations.
Il a relevé par ailleurs qu’ « Il aurait été plus intéressant d’initier un dialogue entre les pays africains participants et non participants en prélude à ce sommet des États-Unis d’Amérique ».
Les deux parties ont convenu qu’il est important que les pays africains, en particulier ceux de la sous-région travaillent à renforcer davantage leurs liens de solidarité et confraternité.
