Charles Kwablan Akonnor, who used to coach the Black Stars, has told Ghanaians to have faith in the team despite their unconvincing play.
The Black Stars are the lowest-ranked team going into the tournament in Qatar. Before beating Nicaragua, they lost 3-0 to Brazil in a friendly match.
But Akonnor, who worked for the team for 19 months before he was fired, thinks that the team has enough experience to know what’s at stake.
He told Joy Prime, “I don’t think we should be scared.”
the black stars have been to the World Cup three times before, and this will be the fourth time. They have played some of the best teams in the world and will be meeting the same teams so there’s no need to worry.
“If you lose to Brazil…yes 3-0 is a bit on a high but this is Brazil, the favourites to win the World Cup; we won against Nicaragua, not too convincing, but we won.
The Former Black Stars coach believes such a stride is positive for the team. Ghanaians should pick on pick on the positives; from now onwards, the idea of criticizing, and saying negative things about the team should stop, he added.
He further states that it is unfortunate the team has not had enough time to play together in order to build chemistry. This was evident in their friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua. However, there will be an improvement in the next friendlies to be played later on November 17.
