GBA Sanctions Coach Sulemana Martey for a Year over October 29 Violent at Bukom Boxing Arena

The Ghana Boxing Authority, GBA, has cracked the whip by banning coach Sulemana Martey of Sonia Boxing Gymnasium from any event or activity of the GBA for a period of one-year, effective Wednesday November 2, 2022 for his role in the violent that rocked the De-luxy professional boxing league at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday October 29.

In addition to his one-year ban, he has also been fined 5,000 cedis to paid without delay or face more punishment.

The sanction followed investigations conducted in the unfortunate incident by the GBA Arbitration Committee.

Coach Sulemana Martey, was found to have instigated supporters of his gym and his boxer, Godwin Tetteh who lost the bantamweight contest against John Zile of Sea View boxing gym in a unanimous decision.

The fans invaded the ring at the signals of Coach Suleman, throwing all manner of missiles at innocent ring officials in the ring, some spectators and dignitaries at the ring side, broke chairs and tables.

The level of hooliganism and vandalism his action orchestrated, caused damages at the boxing arena and also dented the brand of the ongoing De-luxy Professional Boxing League.

The committee report again discovered that Coach Sulemana Martey was involved in previous chaotic incidents at the boxing arena.

The reminded all stakeholders and shareholders of the ongoing boxing league that the GBA has in place, a Review Committee that look into any perceived controversial decisions by Judges and referees, hence all one need is to petition or submit a complaint to the GBA for action.

The release signed by the chairman of promotions on behalf of the GBA Arbitration Committee, Alhaji Tofik Muritala, explained that it therefore does not lie in the power of any one to create any scene due a result or verdict he or she is not satisfied with.

The Ghana Boxing Authority, GBA and Imax Media Promotions sincerely apologize to all who have been affected by the unfortunate incident and assured the general public of total changes in security provision and crowd control mechanisms in subsequent fight nights.
