Muhammed Fuseini and Jerry Klutei Robertson, produced one of the best boxing moments to thrill patrons at the bukom boxing arena.
But an attack by followers of “the gym” after their ward had lost the fight nearly ruined the beauty of the professional boxing league week 14.
There were six bouts on the night.
Bantamweights Muhammed Fuseini of the Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation and ‘the gym’s’ Jerry Klutei Robertson entered the ring for the third fight of the evening.
The two boxers had never lost any bout.
Younger Jerry Klutei hoped to win his third match while Fuseini wanted to extend his winning streak to seven fights.
It therefore came as little surprise when the bell rang.
Mohammed Fuseini was leaning heavily on his expertise to lead the first two rounds as the spectators continued to enjoy the exchanges.
Jerry Klutei Robertson would subsequently make matters worse when, following a somewhat improved performance in round 3, he had a swollen head.
As a result, fuseini was able to maintain control of the exchanges until the end of the sixth round, which they had to finish in the pouring rain.
While two of the judges awarded the victory to Mohammed Fuseini with scores of 58-57 and 60-55, the third judge awarded a draw with a score of 57-57, which resulted in a majority victory for Fuseini.
However, Jerry Klutei Robertson’s corner and his supporters disapproved and proceeded to throw chairs and other missiles at the authorities.
The following three fights were temporarily halted as a result.
Off-camera, a number of patrons voiced their dissatisfaction and urged the Ghana Boxing Authority to enforce the rules in order to protect the league’s future.
