KNUST Suspends Hall Week, SRC Festivities Over Katanga- Conti Clash

Hall week and SRC week celebrations have been put on indefinite hold by the administration of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

This comes after a violent altercation on August 18, 2022, between some University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall (Conti) residents.

Although management has formed a committee to investigate the incident, it has also temporarily outlawed any form of massing up of students.

Management announced that there would be instant random security checks of people and cars coming onto the university campus.

The Executive Committee also agreed that festivities of Hall Week and SRC Week, as well as the massing up of students prior to “morale” activities and procession, would all cease immediately. The announcement further stated that “random security checks of individuals and vehicles entering and leaving the university site are to be carried out.”

When Unity Hall students objected to University Hall students using the sidewalk in front of their hall for a parade, a fight broke out.

Some school and private properties were vandalized as a result of the disruptions, which began on Thursday at 5 o’clock. This happened mainly in front of the Unity Hall.

The university’s transport department has been instructed to take control of all the vehicles that were damaged during the disturbances and to provide the necessary suggestions for repairs, according to the statement.
