The Bawku west district assembly has intervened in the food and welfare crisis facing Burkina Faso asylum seekers in parts of the upper east region.
Since leaving the Kaya and Benliyali settlements in Burkina Faso as a result of purported jihadist and bandit attacks, the asylum seekers have struggled with hunger and dehydration.
The asylum seekers are at various camps including Sapeliga in the Bawku west district.
They have to battle daily to get access to food, water and clothing.
Where and how to sleep at night is another major challenge, exposing the largely women and children to harsh weather and inserts.
The bawku west district assembly on monday, august 8, mobilized some assorted items including food, water, mats, flash lights, mosquito nets and coils for the displaced people.
Bawku west district chief executive, Alhaji Issahaku Ahmed Tahiru, advised the asylum seekers to ensure disciplined among them and desist from from acts that may undermine their stay within the district.
He urged residents living along the unapproved routers within the district to report any strange movement of people to the security for action.

The leader of the asylum seekers at Sapeliga, Zabre Madi, expressed gratitude to the assembly for the support.
The team is led by the district chief executive, Alhaji Issahaku Ahmed Tahiru, included immigration service and the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO.
