The Accra Regional Police Command has intercepted a private ambulance allegedly being used to transport narcotics in La.
On September 10, 2025, police acting on sustained surveillance stopped a Hyundai Hiace private ambulance, registration number GX 277-20, in front of Jamboree Drinking Spot at La Maami.

The driver, Kwame Mananyi Tuanda, 39, was arrested at the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered sacks containing 700 parcels and 473 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was transported from Kpando in the Oti Region to Accra for distribution. Tuanda reportedly admitted to engaging in the trade since 2024.

Police also established that the suspect had purchased the vehicle as a regular car before fitting it with a siren and branding it as an ambulance. Prior to acquiring the Hyundai Hiace, he had used a Toyota Highlander for similar illicit activities. The vehicle, aside from being used for narcotics trafficking, was also allegedly operated for transporting dead bodies.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
