Police Anti-Robbery Operation at Atebubu: Two Suspects Killed in Shootout

The Ghana Police Service has reported the death of two suspected armed robbers following a highway anti-robbery operation in Atebubu, Bono East Region.

According to preliminary investigations, on 30th July 2025, a police patrol team encountered an ongoing robbery attack targeting commuters along the Atebubu highway. Upon spotting the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.

Two suspects sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange and were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining suspects managed to escape into nearby bushes and are currently being pursued.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of:

  • One short gun loaded with two live cartridges
  • Four spent cartridges
  • A machete

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that intensive efforts are underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and urged anyone with information to assist ongoing investigations.
