The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested sixteen (16) foreign nationals and one Ghanaian for engaging in illegal mining operations at Akyem Amenase in the New Abirem District of the Eastern Region.
The arrests were made following a formal petition filed on June 19, 2025, by George Wussah Narh, who reported unauthorized mining activities taking place on his legally acquired concession.
Acting on the complaint, a combined team from the CID Headquarters and the National SWAT Unit conducted a targeted operation on June 20, 2025, leading to the arrest of one Ghanaian: Abdul Mumin Adams, aged 42.

The Fifteen Chinese Nationals are Wang Fu Qing (32), Ye Bi Hua (44), Zheng Zhou Yi (64), Ye You Ming (55), Luo Jian Bo (59), Tian Yu Bing (46), Fan Shu Hui (47), Du Cheng Quan (54), Yuan Jian Dong (33), Wu Ke Hu (57), Zhu Ling Ceng (49), Chen Yi (38), Shi Gao Hui (43), Tan Tao Zhong (53) and Lin Li Zhong (60)
Confusion and Court Proceedings
During interrogation, Abdul Mumin Adams confessed to being the local facilitator who arranged for the Chinese nationals to operate the illegal mine, acting through an associate identified only as Zhou, who is currently at large.

All the Chinese nationals admitted in their respective caution statements that they entered Ghana on tourist visas and do not possess work permits, making their activities in the country illegal.
On June 24, 2025, all sixteen suspects were arraigned before Circuit Court 2 in Koforidua, where they were remanded into lawful custody. They are scheduled to reappear in court on July 3, 2025.
Efforts are currently underway to locate and arrest the suspect Zhou to assist with further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service reiterates its commitment to dismantling illegal mining operations and organized criminal networks across the country. The Service is urging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities for swift action.
Public Advisory
The Police also thank the public for its continued cooperation and support in ensuring the safety, security, and environmental protection of Ghana’s natural resources.
