71 Fishermen Rescued After Armed Attack at Sea Off Senya Breku

Seventy-one fishermen who were attacked by armed men at sea off Senya Breku in the Central Region have been successfully rescued.

The victims were brought safely to shore in batches by a joint rescue team comprising the Marine Police and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO). Authorities have confirmed that all the rescued fishermen are safe and receiving support.

According to initial accounts, the fishermen had set out in the early hours of Thursday, February 26, 2026, for their usual fishing expedition. While returning to shore, they were allegedly ambushed by armed hijackers in a black boat.

The assailants reportedly opened fire and stole outboard motors and generator sets, leaving the fishermen helpless in the water.
