Use Alternative Dispute Resolution to address differences-Chief Justice to Traditional Authorities

The Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah has urged traditional authorities and litigants in the Kpandai District, to patronize the alternative dispute resolution, ADR, mechanism.

He noted that the ADR has proven to be more beneficial in conflict or dispute resolution in terms of speed and cost effectiveness as compared to the adversarial system.

According to the 1992 constitution of Ghana, the judicial service is mandated and responsible for administering justice through the court.

The service has through the construction and creation of new courts succeeded in bringing justice to the door steps of Ghanaians.

Addressing a gathering of chiefs and people of Kpandai to commission the Kpandai District Court, the Chief Justice, admonished magistrates of District courts to use the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods to facilitate a fast justice delivery system.

He expressed gratitude to the Kpandai District Assembly for providing the edifice, which will ensure ready access to courts for the promotion of justice.

For his part, Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shaani Alhassan Shaibu, urged magistrates in the region to continue to dispense justice without fear or Favour.

He appealed to the Chief Justice to raise the status of the tamale high court in terms of infrastructure to benefit its current status.

The Kpandai District was carved out of the then East Gonja District in 2008.

Prior to the construction of the kpandai court, cases in the District were referred to the Bimbilla Magistrate court which is 25 kilometers.
