Eighty (80) parliamentarians from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who demanded the dismissal of the Finance Minister earlier today will meet with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Citi FM in Accra reported that the President will meet with the MPs at Jubilee House this evening.
The MPs convened a press conference today and demanded the dismissal of Ken Ofori-Atta and Charles Adu Boahen under the leadership of Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for the Asante-Akim North Constituency.
He said: “The recent development within the economy is of major concern to our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern known to our president through the parliamentary leadership and the leadership of the party without any positive response.”
“We are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the president changes the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the financial sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of the economy,” he added.
In related news, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), an opposition party, has submitted a resolution to remove the Finance Minister from office.
At a news conference in Parliament on Tuesday, the Banda Ahenkro MP stated that discussions about the vote of censure against Mr. Ofori-Atta have already started between the Majority and Minority leaders.
It was expressed yesterday in a business committee by the Honorable Haruna Iddrisu. He didn’t want to surprise the Majority Leader, so the motion is ready, Mr. Banda stated.
The NPP MPs claimed that their attempts to get the administration to address the problems facing their constituents’ struggling economy had been ineffective.
