The national investigation bureau, has arrested a truck driver and owner for attempting to smuggle 275 bags of cocoa bean through Aflao to Togo.
The cocoa beans which were concealed under organic manure and the vehicle have been impounded.
The owner of the truck Ebenezer Tetteh reportedly admitted ownership of the consignment, and has since been remanded into police custody together with the driver to assist in investigations.
He commended the security agencies for their diligence, urging the public to join in exposing criminals.
Charles Amenyaglo, warned the smugglers to rethink their decision as they will leave no stone unturned to ensure they are found out to face the law.
The unpatriotic behaviour of some unscrupulous people is costing this nation millions in foreign exchange.
This year due to some price differentials between Ghana and our nonboring countries, cocoa smuggling has taken a completely new twist.
Smugglers buy large quantities of dried cocoa beans sometimes from the eastern and western regions and transport them to Togo in an attempt to outwit the security services.
some of these cocoa beans are concealed in trucks covered under piles of manure, wheat flour among others.
