The conference of heads of basic schools in the Bawku Municipality is calling for the closure of all basic school due escalating insecurity.
The decision of the teachers follows the death of the teacher on Monday and the ban on ‘yellow yellow’
Bawku has been without peace since November 20, last year leading to a curfew over the municipality.
Reports suggested the brutal killing of 80 person including a police woman and a teacher.
The teacher was reportedly caught in a cross fire after school on Monday September 18.
In the wake of the heightened insecurity, the upper west regional security council extended the existing curfew to include a ban on the use of tricycles popularly referred to as ‘yellow yellow’.
The conference heads of basic school in the Bawku municipality say the decision has further imposed difficulty on their work since the ‘yellow yellow’ is the only means of transport of teachers in Bawku municipality
Following the insecurity and the impact of the ban, the conference has appealed to the municipal directorate of education to temporarily close down all basic schools pending the improvement of the security situation.
The teachers say their lives and that of the pupils cannot be guaranteed if school should remain opened.
The conference also appealed to the feuding factions to lay down their arms and allow peace to prevail for the sake of their future leaders.
