Preparation for the hosting of the 66th independence celebration in ho is progressing steadily at the youth development centre sports stadium.

The leader of the 66th anniversary committee and director of operations at the presidency, Lord Commey was in ho to inspect work being done at the venue and also meet with the chiefs to formally inform them about the event.

The Akufo-Addo led administration has since 2019, begun the rotation of the hosting of the independence celebration, which hitherto was a preserve for Accra.

The first of the kind was held in the Northern regional capital, Tamale on March 6, 2019, with the 2020 celebration moving to Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital and the garden city of Ghana.

The 2021 event was brought back to Accra and observed elaborately at the forecourt of the Jubilee House due to the COVID 19 restrictions.

The next event that was 6th March 2022 was organized in Cape Coast, the central regional capital at the newly constructed Cape Coast stadium.

The decision to rotate the celebration was to foster unity and cohesion among Ghanaians.

The 66th celebration committee, made-up of the representatives of the various security agencies and institutional heads, was in the volta regional capital, ho, to assess the progress of preparatory works.

The committee first held separate meetings with the chiefs and queens of the Asogli State and the volta regional house of chiefs to formally announce their presence and the hosting right to the region.

The Awafia (Warlord) of the Asogli State, Togbe Howusu, welcomed the decision to honour the region with the major national event.

President of the volta house of chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo, pledged the house support for the independence day celebration in the region.

The 5,000 capacity youth development centre, formally the Ho sports stadium, is an abandoned facility.

It was awarded to contract but work has stalled due to lack of funding.

However, the facility remains the only option if the independence celebration must take place in ho.

Currently work is underway at the site to ensure that the facility is ready for the event on march 6.

The director of operations at the presidency and leader of the committee, Lord Commey, urged the people of volta region to take advantage of the event to sell their cultural heritage.
